Oregon Artists Series Foundation to Celebrate 10 Year Anniversary of the Salem Convention Center

The Oregon Artists Series Foundation will join in the 10 year anniversary celebration of the Salem Convention Center. The Oregon Artists Series Foundation places works of art in and around the Convention Center and will add to the celebration evening  with a special silent auction and artist reception on Thursday, November 5, 2015.

Since 2006, the Oregon Artists Series has facilitated the support of art at the Convention Center: the Mayor’s Art Annual exhibitions and purchase of works from it; acquisitions and loans of exterior sculptures installed south of the building; and collaboration with the Hallie Ford Museum of Art who loan contemporary work from the collection at Willamette University.

To mark the 10th anniversary of the Convention Center, Oregon Artists Series is now raising the funds needed to gift Street Light, a 1962 painting by one of Oregon's most distinguished artists, Carl Hall, to the center.

The event on November 5th will be a special opportunity for arts enthusiasts to pledge their support – at any level - to purchase this special Carl Hall painting for placement in one of Salem’s most prominent public spaces.

In addition, there will be a silent auction of work by regional artists including John Rock, Carol Grigg, Phyllis Yes and others, with proceeds intended to aid in the purchase of more public art work on an ongoing basis.

“We’re excited to raise funds to acquire the Carl Hall painting.  Public art connects the past to the present and this piece from a noteworthy local artist is a fitting community contribution to the Convention Center, especially as we celebrate its 10 years as a special gathering place in Salem,” said Jim Bauer, Chair of the Oregon Artists Series board. “We hope to see real community support to acquire the painting.”

The Open House, Silent Auction and Artist Reception will be held at the Convention Center on Thursday, November 5, 2015, from 5-7pm.  The event includes live jazz, lavish hors d'oeuvres, and no-host beer & wine.
